Methods guide

Locational Astrology: Maps, Relocation Charts, and Methods

Locational astrology is the wider field for reading a birth chart against places on Earth. Astrocartography is one method inside that field. A relocation chart is another. This guide shows which question each method answers, then sends you to the free map or the one-city relocation chart on Astrocarto.org.

This generator draws an astrocartography world map from your birth date, time, and birthplace. It is not a Local Space chart and not a single-city relocation chart.

Locational astrology methods compared

These techniques can inform the same trip or move, but the outputs are not interchangeable. Astrocarto.org calculates the world map and the one-city chart. It does not calculate Local Space.

MethodMain questionTypical outputOn Astrocarto.org
AstrocartographyWhere was each planet rising, setting, culminating, or at the lower meridian at my birth moment?A personal world map of planetary linesYes. Use the generator on this page.
Relocation chartWhat changes when this same birth moment is recalculated for one city?Relocated angles, houses, and planet house placementsYes. One city at a time.
Local SpaceWhich planetary directions radiate from one chosen place?Directional lines on the local horizonNo. This site does not calculate Local Space.
AstrogeographyHow are signs or planets associated with regions of Earth?Depends on the tradition. It is not one person's birth map.Explained here only. Not a separate calculator.

Choose your path

Two questions, two existing tools

Both paths use calculators that already exist on Astrocarto.org. Pick the one that matches whether you are still scanning the world or already focused on one city.

I want to scan many places

Generate the personal world map from birth date, time, and birthplace. The map shows where each planet was angular at that moment. Guest map sessions have a daily limit; signing in unlocks more sessions. Optional AI chat and city reports use credits.

I already have one city

Use the map for context, then run the free relocation chart once for that city. It keeps the same birth moment and recalculates angles and whole-sign houses for the new coordinates.

Definition

What the umbrella term actually covers

Locational astrology is any approach that connects a horoscope with a place on Earth. Astrocartography is the best-known technique inside it: Jim Lewis popularized maps that mark where planets were angular at a timed birth. A relocation chart is a different calculation for one city. Astrogeography is a looser label. Some writers use it for this whole field. Others use it for traditions that assign signs or planets to regions without projecting one person's birth chart. Check the output, not the nickname.

Planetary lines on a personal astrocartography map

Not a synonym for the map alone

Calling every location technique astrocartography hides the job each tool does. A world map answers where angular lines fall. A relocation chart answers how houses and angles reorder in one city. If a page promises a directional Local Space chart, that is a third job. This site's calculators cover t...

Chart angles that depend on birth time and place

Why birth time sits in the middle of the method

Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, and Imum Coeli move quickly. An approximate birth time can still support a broad look at the map, but it makes precise city conclusions less reliable. The same limit applies when a relocation chart rebuilds houses from a new Ascendant. If you only know the date, tre...

Distance and practical context around planetary lines

A symbolic layer, not a relocation verdict

These methods do not prove that a place will cause love, money, a visa, or failure. They offer a symbolic frame for comparing themes. No planetary line is universally lucky, and a city with no nearby line is not automatically empty of meaning. Work, housing, cost, safety, healthcare, and legal statu...

Example

A practical sequence for three candidate cities

Suppose you are comparing Lisbon, Berlin, and Montreal. This sequence does not declare a winner. It shrinks an open question into evidence you can set beside real-world constraints.

Generate the map first

Enter your birth date, time, and birthplace in the generator on this page. Inspect which planet-and-angle combinations fall near each city. You are looking for different emphases, not a ranked list of best homes.

Keep one city for a closer read

If Berlin stays on the shortlist, note its distance from the lines you care about, then open the relocation chart for Berlin only. The map shows the wider pattern. The relocated wheel shows angles and houses for that one place.

Hand the shortlist to the where-to-live guide

When the original question is where you might live, continue with the where-to-live workflow. Match line themes to a goal, then check visas, work, and housing. The methods page stops at choosing the right calculation.

Read a line only after you know the angle

A Venus line on the Descendant is not the same topic as a Venus line on the Imum Coeli. If you need planet-and-angle meanings, use the lines hub and the map interpretation guide after the calculation, not instead of it.

Limits

What this site calculates, and what it does not

The map on this page is calculated on our servers from the birth details you submit. The relocation chart uses the same moment and a second set of coordinates. Neither tool draws Local Space directions.

Map

Planetary lines for the birth moment, projected so you can scan the globe, check a city, and compare a short list. Guest sessions have a daily limit. Signing in allows more map sessions. Deeper AI interpretation uses credits shown in the product.

One-city chart

The relocation chart calculator is free to run for one city at a time. It shows how the Ascendant and houses shift. It does not replace the map, and the map does not replace it.

Out of scope

No Local Space calculator, no guarantee of the best place to live, and no legal, medical, or financial advice. If a source uses the words astro location chart, confirm whether it means a world map or a relocated wheel before you compare results.

FAQ

Common questions about these methods

Short answers for the questions that usually sit behind this search.

Start with the method that matches your question

Generate a free astrocartography map when you need a world scan. Open the relocation chart when one city needs a house-by-house look. For a move decision, continue to the where-to-live guide.
